First Impressions
My first impressions of the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger was that there are crowded and the space is not large. Although i'm glad that i will help which i enjoy doing and communicate with different people and learn from mistakes that i do there. My supervisor's full name is Tracey Allen and her official job title is volunteer coordinator ext 116.
some characteristics that describe my supervisor is that she is nice, pretty speechless, respectful, hardworking and very understandable person. The first day i meet her she showed all around the pantry how i should work their and help i felt so proud of myself that i learned a lot the first day i went there and get a long with the costumers.
The place where I work is noisy and crowed inside the pantry, sometimes there are busy the pantry is not very large it has to roll where people can use the shopping cars to go around. There are probably 10 or more people who works there everyday and most of are volunteers. The neighborhood is mostly quiet you don't see a lot of people on the street there are not a lot of groceries around that neighborhood like where i live.
At my internship site there are many people who comes there with families individuals and friends.
So far in my internship i have completed 5 days working there,i have directed people, i told them what to take for food base on their cards. I have wipe the floor and pick up boxes.
My exact schedule so far is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. I am arriving at 2:00pm to the internship site and arrive at home sometime 4pm and 6:30pm or 7pm everyday.
My internship site is crowed sometimes but is not like IHSL some people are nice and some of them sometime are angry. I have meet a lots of people there and some of my co-worker are so cool and friendly. All though I'm learning and experiencing a lot with different people and how to communicate with all different kind of people. Sometimes there are people who come there unhappy they would not listen to what you tell them to take and they can be very difficult to working with but I'm always nice to them even if they wouldn't listen. But i control myself not to talk back at them move on and help other people and i like the job i do because mostly i communicate a lot.
Hassanatou,
ReplyDeleteI remember visiting Bed Stuy Campaign Against Hunger a few years ago and observing similar situations. It's indeed a busy place and not too spacious. But I remember feeling proud when I was there that IHSL students were lending a hand in helping people out. Bed Stuy Campaign does very important work to help people in the community. As Ki Ki would say, "Carry on!"
Sounds you job can meet many different each day. And the place you work are busy. I think your internship give you experience to know more about how a community looks like. Keep it up!

ReplyDeleteI think sometimes working with other people can be nerve racking, especially when they don't listen. But the best part is that you are always patient, supportive and kind and they will understand that you are just willing to help them and make a change in their lives.
